THM Menu for July 2- 8, 2018

This week starts 1st week of my 5th round of my THM New Habits Challenge 2018. Are you joining us?  I have a FB group page if you would like to join us and keep each other accountable. Or for even more fun use the hashtag #THMnewhabitschallenge2018 on IG and leave a picture.

Since I did NOT eat much of last weeks menu, I am doing it again THIS week. Hoping to finally get this menu done up. oT looks SO good!

I was watching a neat vlog called Our Tribe of 10 a few months ago and they were going through THT trying each recipe. I thought what a good idea! I have made almost ALL the recipes in the original book, but not the Trim Healthy Cookbook. I have Trim Healthy Table, but there are SO MANY recipes in Trim Healthy Cookbook that I haven't even tried yet. So, I am going to try cooking a few more from the Cookbook and see how far I get.  I have made some, so I am going to skip over those, but there are SO MANY I have never tried.  What recipes have YOU tried and LOVED?

I am changing the amounts of recipes I am choosing to try each week. Something isn't flowing right. I end up making and prepping breakfasts and snacks and never seem to make it to lunches and suppers. I need to figure out HOW to not keep doing that.  And I am only using 2 or 3 recipe for supper.

Breakfasts: - for the shakes and smoothies, I am going to use Kefir instead of cottage cheese and Almond Milk.  I make smoothies almost daily to go along with my breakfast.

THM New Habits Challenge 2018 Round 5

I am wanting to start a few new habits that are THM related this year. Anyone want to join me? The challenge group will run for 6-8 weeks. I am going to pick 3 things to do for 6+ weeks to help me better my THM journey.  Anyone want to join me?  We will start our next challenge on July 5, and end September 2 , 2018.  THM does not manage or endorse the group’s content.

For the next 6 weeks I want to be consistent in:

-Eating Okra at least 3 times a week.
-Drinking 1 gallon of water or liquid a day. - does NOT including anything caffeine.
-Eat a cultured/fermented food at least once a day.

If this is something you want to join in and keep me accountable, there are 2 ways to do it. Join my FB challenge group or on IG #THMnewhabitschallenge2018.  If you want to join the group I will expect you to check in weekly with pictures or participating in discussions. I want the group to help keep me be accountable. So if you don't plan to post weekly, the IG challenge might be a better fit.  All you need to "join" is posting a picture of your prepping or meal to keep each other encouraged to keep going.  This group is about building new habits to help us in our journey. If we mess up, that is ok. Just restart again in 3 hours.

Once this challenge is over I will hopefully have 3 new habits along with you! I will have a new set of 3 habits for the next challenge weeks.

So who is in with me????

I will be posting my progress with meeting my 3 new habits and also some suggestion and encouragement to keep us going.

So for those of you who did Round 4 with me, how did you do?  Please leave your comments below. I want to hear how we all did!

I did NOT do well with Okra. That is going to STAY on the TO DO list for sure.

I did ok with drinking water, but not as well as I know I NEED to.

I did ok with fermented food. I even drank Kombucha a bit even though I really DO NOT like it.

So my conclusion for this challenge is I need to keep the same things and keep trying. I need to beat the monsters.  How about you?

My 5 top THM kitchen gadgets

I have just about every gadget. I have a few on my, I need list (air frier for starters), but I own quite a few. And yes, I use ALL of them.

1. Food chopper. It is super nice to get all the onions, celery, peppers, etc all nice and even so they cook nicely. I have to admit I use them UP though. I think I have used up 6 of them. I buy them at the thrift store and toss them when they break. I have only bought 1 new.

2. Coffee Grinder.  I can grind up my sweetener, Flax, and Vit C etc. I have no idea how I would do THM without it.

3. Blender. I bought a NICE heavy one from Aldi that is similar to a Vitamix. I use it daily. I had a Ninja before this. I loved it, but I kept breaking the blender jar. I decided to just get a bigger better one and forget the smaller one I kept breaking. It was a good choice. I do miss the small jar option though...

4. Food processor.  I slice and shred so many things. I am not sure how I would do without it.  Mine is an old Cuisinart that my mom found at a thrift store for me when my old one died... a sad death.

5. Spiralizer.I bought mine at Aldi, and it is such a treat. I have a hand held one and I do NOT like it nearly as well. Infact I don't think I have used it since I bought the nice hand cranked one.

I do own MANY more gadgets, but these are the ones I use constantly.  These IMO are the must haves for me. What are yours???

My 5 tips for making an easy THM menu that fits your family

How do YOU make your family's menu?  Mine changes from time to time, so for the moment, this is what I do at the moment.

1. We have a breakfast menu. Before you start going HUH, just listen.  Each day of the week we have a plan for breakfast. I no longer have to hear, MOM WHATS FOR BREAKFAST!  I am half asleep in the morning anyway. I do NOT do well with constant questions being thrown at me, a million miles an hour and I am only half awake.  So here is what we do:
Monday: Oatmeal - I pick a THM friendly recipe....
Tuesday: Eggs N Bacon or sausage etc. If I have greens I will cook those up along with it.
Wednesday: cereal - there are a few recipes in THM Cookbook and THM Table. Or the Sam's cereal.
Thursday: Pancakes. We do waffles at times, with syrup and PB. Sometimes yogurt and fruit.
Friday: Usually we make enough Thursday that we have leftovers. If not, we do eggs/egg bake.
Saturday and Sunday: we do yogurt/kefir with a baked good. Muffins, bagels, toast, etc.

2. Lunch is leftovers from supper or we do Egg (deviled or egg salad sandwiches). I make 1/2 salad and/or soup a week and we will have that as well.

3. Snack - yogurt/kefir or whatever fruit we have on hand. Usually bananas, apples, and whatever is on sale at Aldi or the Kroger cheap bin. LOL!

4. Supper. This gets a little more complicated. I hate our menu honestly, but it is what works for us.  We have a few days that are the same... I hate that.  Tuesday is ALWAYS tacos. Once in a while I can get a Mexicanish meal in them instead. Its rare though. Wednesday is grandma lunch... don't you all have a day like that. LOL!  Thursday is a soup. My one meal that is cheap and easy and I get to PICK.  Sunday night is always pizza in the cooler months and in the summer we do burger/hot dogs etc with whatever salad I have on hand.  That leaves Monday, Friday, and Saturday I get to pick something from the THM cookbooks to make us. I try to make one chicken and one beef at least.  It works.  Just seems like we do the SAME things OVER and OVER again. During lent (No, I'm not Catholic) we usually have Fish every Friday. It is a treat that I don't mind actually. I have a THM Fish recipe I could LIVE on.

5. My last tip is to let the kids pick some of the meals. My kids have pretty much picked all the breakfasts. One of my son's is the pancake mixer uper... is that a word? He gets up and mixes the pancakes on Thursday. My other son makes the pancakes.   I usually make my zucchini pancakes once a month and I will freeze the leftovers (not all my children like them, imagine that).  One likes to make the oatmeal on Monday. I do the kefir and yogurt typically. If they make it my frozen fruit disappears too fast. Because after all mom is a fruit smoothie, not a yogurt/kefir smoothie. These poor children are still struggle to understand why they need protein with every meal. LOL!  The Tacos and Pizza/Hotdogs etc are the meal they ALL want and love. I make some on plan things so I can eat along with them don't worry. I will sometimes ask them which meals from the cookbook they want to try, but usually they bother to look. Its kinda a joke around my house that they all hate chicken, until they try it that is. LOL! Silly boys...
