THM Menu for April 2-8th, 2018



This week starts 1st week of my 3rd round of my THM New Habits Challenge. Are you joining us?  I have a FB group page if you would like to join us and keep each other accountable. Or for even more fun use the hashtag #THMnewhabitschallenge2018 on IG and leave a picture.  

I am taking a 1 weeks break from working through the THM Cookbook because I want to try some NEW recipes from Carolyn's NEW BOOK, Easy Keto Dinners (EKD), and also a few from the Trim Healthy Table (THT)that have been calling my name. But never fear, I will be back at the THM Cookbook next week!

Breakfasts: - for the shakes and smoothies, I am going to use Kefir instead of cottage cheese and Almond Milk.  I make smoothies almost daily to go along with my breakfast.

My review for THM Menu for March 26 - April 1, 2018



I have made so many NEW to me recipes from the Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook, I wanted to record what we all thought of them. Some were hits and some were not. A few we didn't get to make so I will add them to another menu to try.  Not sure I will ever make ALL the recipes from the cookbook, but I do want to make good use out of the book. I tend to make the same things over and over and I want to get out of that rut... for a now anyway.


Breakfasts: - I use Kefir instead of cottage cheese and protein powder etc. 
Thin Mint Chocolate Chip Shake - THM S THM Cookbook p.413 - As usually, I LOVE this recipe
Banana Nut Muffin THM S THM Cookbook p.277  - I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this. Not sure why I didn't think I would. It didn't take exactly like a banana muffin though.
Berrylicious Thin Thick - THM S THM Cookbook p.424 - Still didn't get to try this.
Fields of Green Omcake THM S, THM Cookbook p.240 - I totally for got to make this. I was distracted with Aldi's sale on Asparagus and Brussels Sprouts.
Lemon Frappe - THM FP THM Cookbook p.419 - I think it is my favorite Frappe recipe
Banana Bread Pudding THM E THM Cookbook p.352 - I made this for my husband. He's a banana bread pudding fan. Hope it passes the test.

Thai on the Fly Soup- THM FP THM Cookbook p.122 - This haven't made this.
Magenta Salad THM S, THM Cookbook p.233 - I wanted so badly to like this recipe. I LOVE beets But the spices etc added to them just makes them not so good. I think I will stick to just plain and simple beets that I already know I LOVE. But I am glad I tried this one you know?  Maybe I will try again, in a few weeks.
Spinach Lane Soup THM  FP/S THM Cookbook p.121 - I am not sure why I didn't make this. I even had all the ingredients.

Snacks:
Meadow's Lemon Coconut Truffles- THM S,THM Cookbook p.386 - I really enjoyed these. I kinda thought they would be weird, but they were delicious.
Special Occasion Chocolate Cake- THM S Cookbook p. 309 - I loved the cake, but the frosting, not so much. I think I am frosting challenged. I have not had the best track record with THM frosting. So disappointing.  This time it was thicker than the last recipe, but still too soupy. But I was able to portion the cake into containers and add the soupy frosting. Delicious. 
Swiss Crackers- THM FP Cookbook p. 457 - I think I need to work on thickness. The middle was doughy but the edges were done. I am hoping to try them with some salsa tomorrow.

Orange Chicken THM S THM Cookbook p.72 - This was so good, my niece kept stealing it from me!
Wonder Fish Tacos - THM E THM Cookbook p.171  - I finally FOUND the fish in the freezer and still didn't make this dish. Silly me.
Chicken Florentine - THM S THM Cookbook p.46 - I didn't make this recipe. I ran out of time the night I wanted to and the kids begged for grilled cheese instead.
Mother Hubbard Soup - THM S THM Cookbook p.97 - This was the oddest soup. It tasted so good, but we couldn't make ourselves eat the boiled egg in it. So we had it on the side. 
Smarty Pants Stroganoff THM S THM Cookbook p.44 - I will try to make this again. The meat I had set aside for this just wasn't working for me. So next time I find a roast I will try again. Lesson learned, pork roasts will NOT work in this recipe no matter how much you want it to.
Rustic Pizza - THM S THM Cookbook p.211-12 -I finally made this! It smelled so good. I am glad I finally did it. Now do I have to admit which recipe I liked better? No? Oh good.

THM New Habits Challenge 2018 Round 3


I am wanting to start a few new habits that are THM related this year. Anyone want to join me? The challenge group will run for 6-8 weeks. I am going to pick 3 things to do for 6+ weeks to help me better my THM journey.  Anyone want to join me?  We will start our next challenge on April 1, and end May 26, 2018.  THM does not manage or endorse the group’s content.


For the next 8 weeks I want to be consistent in:

-Drinking 1 gallon of water or liquid a day. - does NOT including anything caffeine.
-Eating Okra at least 3 times a week.

-Take pictures of at least one of my meals a day to be able to share

If this is something you want to join in and keep me accountable, there are 2 ways to do it. Join my FB challenge group or on IG #THMnewhabitschallenge2018.  If you want to join the group I will expect you to check in weekly with pictures or participating in discussions. I want the group to help keep me be accountable. So if you don't plan to post weekly, the IG challenge might be a better fit.  All you need to "join" is posting a picture of your prepping or meal to keep each other encouraged to keep going.  This group is about building new habits to help us in our journey. If we mess up, that is ok. Just restart again in 3 hours.

Once this challenge is over I will hopefully have 3 new habits along with you! I will have a new set of 3 habits for the next 8 weeks.

So who is in with me????

I will be posting my progress with meeting my 3 new habits and also some suggestion and encouragement to keep us going.

So for those of you who did Round 2 with me, how did you do?  Please leave your comments below. I want to hear how we all did!

I can say I did well with 2 of the challenges, but I struggled with Okra the most.  I am not sure WHY I don't either. I just simple forgot. I did ok for the first 2 weeks and then just totally BOMBED the last 3. UGH.  

I did ok with meal prep this time because I finally figure out that I could hire my son to meal prep for me. It lasted only 2 weeks, but it was a load of my shoulders for those. And while he was doing that for me, my husband agreed to do THM along with me, so I can now include his meal prep with mine, which means I just do my normal meal prep and add extra for him. I still make the menu, and he picks off my menu what he wants and I prep it for him. It works SO NICELY and is an answer to prayer. 

Deeps S meals were not that bad. I mostly made sure I had Eggs and Bacon at least 2 or 3 times to get that in. Along with Superfood Chews. I am so excited I was able to make it it a habit. I am lovin my fried eggs!

My review of THM Menu for March 19-25, 2018

I have made so many NEW to me recipes from the Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook, I wanted to record what we all thought of them. Some were hits and some were not. Lemon Pucker Gummies- THM FP THM Cookbook p.387 - I added the extra gelatin and it was even better than I expected. I love that they are good for you!
Praline Protein Bars THM FP THM Cookbook p.391 - These were better than I thought. I was kinda afraid to try this one. I am not a fan of protein bars. I am glad I was mistake. Even my husband like these!
Rich Custard Strawberry Pie - THM S Cookbook p.331 - I think I need to learn to COOK the cake more. It was plenty sweet, but heavy. Still tasted good though.

I was watching a neat vlog called Our Tribe of 10 a few months ago and they were going through THT trying each recipe. I thought what a good idea! I have made almost ALL the recipes in the original book, but not the Trim Healthy Cookbook. I have Trim Healthy Table, but there are SO MANY recipes in Trim Healthy Cookbook that I haven't even tried yet. So, I am going to try cooking a few more from the Cookbook and see how far I get.  I have made some, so I am going to skip over those, but there are SO MANY I have never tried.  What recipes have YOU tried and LOVED?

I am planning to end my THM Cookbook cook through by the end of April, so in May I can start Trim Healthy Table.

My favorite Aldi dessert or snack recipes from the Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook



I typically shop at Aldi. The recipes listed below can all be made with things I can purchase at my local Aldi.  I use their Stevia sweetener in place of the sweet blend mentioned in the recipes. My Aldi just recently starting carrying PB powder as well!  I also use my coffee grinder to grind flax and oatmeal etc.

My review of THM Menu for March 5 - 11, 2018

Chocolate Chip Baby Frap - THM FP THM Cookbook p.421 - this was delicious. I want to make it again for sure!
Bring on da Buttah Pancakes THM S THM Cookbook p.262 - I loved these pancakes. Simple easy, fluffy, and just YUMMY!
Thin Mint Chocolate Chip Shake- THM S THM Cookbook p.410 - One of my favorites because mint anything is amazing.
Breaggy Fry Up THM S THM Cookbook p.244 - Pretty good, They were not as good re-warmed though.
Orange Creamsicle Shake - THM E THM Cookbook p.408 - I still LOVE this recipe

Cream of Mushroom Soup - THM S THM Cookbook p.110 - Made this one. It was ok. I loved the flavor, but I am just not sure mushrooms are my thing.
Broccoli and Cheese - THM S THM Cookbook p.111 - I liked this recipes, but I want to add MORE cream next time.
Curry in a Hurry Soup THM S THM Cookbook p.112 - I didn't make this one because I forgot to get the noodles. So I will try again... in a few weeks.

Snacks:
Time for Lime Cupcakes - THM S THM Cookbook p.306 - These were good. I hate the frosting recipes. So runny and just not worth the effort. Next time I will ONLY do cream cheese. I have lots of it left since it ran OFF the cupcakes when I tried to smear it on top. "sigh"
Pineapple Upside Down Cake THM E THM Cookbook p.290 - this was so good. But I was surprised how soupy the recipe was when I added it to the pineapple. I was so sure it wouldn't cook all the way through. I was so glad I was wrong. It was amazing. I want to try it again for sure!
Glycine Glory Pudding - THM S/FP Cookbook p. 348 - I am not sure what I did with this recipe. It was not sweet at all. The thickness was amazing though. I made 3 containers so the next time I ate it, I added some Pyure and some chopped up 85% chocolate and it was delicious. I think I need to make it again and add the sweetener!

Cashew Chicken THM S THM Cookbook p.65 - This was such a good recipe. I have no idea why I didn't try it before? Silly for sure.
