PnS shopping trip March 23, 2013

So I kinda took a break the last couple of weeks. But now I am BACK and ready to get some serious shopping done.

This particular trip cost me about $35. Not too bad. I had MANY free things. The (some) soda, juice, egg decoration kits and the burritos were all free. My mom was awesome about going through my transactions and was able to find the mistakes I had. I am so thankful!  I should have gone back at least 2 more times to get the rest of the burritos and the sunscreen and lettuce I wanted. I just ran out of energy and time.

Target 2nd and 3rd week of March 2013

I went to Target several times.   I am not sure how many times actually.  I wanted to put them all together because they are all because of the same deal. :-)

I paid $2 for all this!

This one was only $2 as well!

Piggly Wiggly March 23, 2013

Another Pig trip. 2 transactions. I paid $16 for it. I think I will be set this summer for soda. I only buy it when I pay less than $1 per bottle.  And we usually just drink Root Beer. Now all I need is the ice cream. :-)

Piggly Wiggly March 22, 2013

Another great day at Pig. YAY!  Not as fantastic as some, because I kinda forgot I wasn't going to double my Spinach coupons. Oops.

Still only $9, so not bad.

Mexican Corn Salad

This is one of my FAVORITE recipes from the Raw cookbook I used many years ago. Having all the ingredients raw makes it even better, but since I don't I am happy to settle for this version.

Mexican Corn Salad

1 medium onion chopped
1 red or orange pepper chopped
1 can black olives
1 can or corn
Dash of Pasley (cilantro works just fine, I just hate it!)
Salt and Pepper to taste
1 tsp cumin
Dash of lemon juice

Mix together and let marinade for about 2 hours before serving. We like to eat it as a salad, but it is yummy with tortilla chips as well. YUM YUM!

Early to Rise: Day 20

Wow, has it been 20 days already? Whew. They sure went by fast.

One of the things that has been a theme with this challenge is to have some Quiet time. I find myself yearning for some. But it seems that the harder I strive for it, the harder it is to get. I have set for myself about 1- 2 hours at night, but that rarely works out. I try to do it in the morning. That rarely works as well. My children know when I get up and the quiet it is over. Yes, I do love them to pieces and they are the light of my life. They are the blessing in every way.  My only regret is that I don't have MORE to disturb me in the morning... I wish I did.

So for now I am happy to get the quiet time when I sleep. I will have plenty of quiet time when they are all grown. I will miss it SO MUCH and long for the busy time again. It is going to come all too soon.

So I will treasure the non - quiet time.  I will not get all bent out of shape because I didn't get my "quiet time" This is a season and I am going to learn and LOVE it. I know way to many moms/people that can't survive without their "me" time to the point they get angry if they don't get it. I am not going to be one.

Early to Rise Day 19

Take Control of Your Day

HA! I am working on it. I think I have been kinda floating most times. Mostly because I am trying to play catch up from the day before or in some cases we are so sick no one cares.

But honestly the most disturbing things to my day is when I am gone. I REALLY do not want to be gone, but it is a necessary evil, but it is miserable and wrecks havoc on what I need to get done each day.  This week has been and is going to be bad.  I will be done almost every day. I LOVE weeks when I stay home, or if I go out I can take only 1 or two children with me.

Getting up early helps me get a few more things accomplished in the peace and quiet, but it is honestly going to take me a month of early mornings to get caught up with just the basics. LOL!

I actually got up a LITTLE later today. I got up at 7:30 because my children decided to bless us with them making breakfast. Fried potatoes and yogurt. YUM!

Early to Rise Day 18

Chose Who You Will Be Today.

I sometimes struggle with just taking a moment and changing MY attitude.

This past weekend we attended a conference at church about child training. It was a real eye opener. Such a different mindset. But I feel it is important. I can't change my older children's thinking. I can only point them to the person WHO CAN.  This is something I knew of course, but it was kinda a dose of reality.

Another day I woke up at 6:48.  I set my alarm to go off at 6:50 and it keeps going off 2 minutes early. LOL!

Early to Rise Day 14 - 17

Find what motivates you?

Boy that is something I am not sure I have the answer to. I have had issues trying to come up with what I want to do to get myself up. I finally settled on a stack of books I wanted to read.  Then we all got sick AGAIN.

1. I like to get up earily because I have some quiet time, most mornings that is. I miss the time of being able to just sit and read or read through a few of my favorite blogs.  I don't get much time during the day that I can focus on that. And in the evenings I am scrambling around trying to get the house clean before my husband comes home (11PM comes so early)

2. If I get up early I can write a to do list that I might actually finish.

3. I am awake when the children get up and I can smile and love on them instead of moaning at them from my bed.  My goal has been to always have a smile on my face in the morning for them. I NEVER want them to remember grumpy mommy in the morning.

And for the past week I have been getting up at....

I am so excited and proud of myself. YAY! I love my alarm clock... well maybe not. hehe

Target Coupon Run March 13, 2013

I payed $2, PLUS I have a $5 GC. So I actually MADE money on this transaction. YAY!  Been a while since I went to Target for some serious couponing.

There are 2 or more transactions I want to complete this week or next since the deal is ALSO next week. We'll see how it goes. Free shampoo, condition, and soap, I'm ok with that.

I have had a hatred for couponing at Target. I use to love the store, but then they changed their coupon policy and I never adjusted. I still am unhappy about it, but I have seen so many great deals for Target I fell into temptation and went back. Why? Because they had some deals that MADE me money to shop. So FINE, Target wins. I am shopping there again.

Early to Rise Day 13

 Blessing Others

This is something I have been working on this year already.  One of my goals has been to write a note EACH week to someone. Most weeks I make it. An email, or a  note in the mail. Just a little hey, I am thinking and praying for you.  I remember doing it for my husband YEARS ago. Not sure why I stopped?  I like to do it, but never think about it until it is too late and he left for work already. Silly me can't even think, hey silly how about writing it NOW so he can have it tomorrow. Oh, boy I am lame.
There is something I would like to AD to the cards though and that is a homemade gift or cookies, muffins etc. I had children decorate Pringle cans so we could pkg them up nicely. But again.. Um... I we didn't actually use them yet. But hey I started. So my goal for this week it so write a not AND a homemade gift of cookies or muffins to someone at church.

What time did I get up?
I FINALLY MADE IT!  I got up before 7. WOW! I didn't think it was possible. And to top it all off, I actually slept some this afternoon. YAHOOO! That means getting up tomorrow should be easier. I also have some REASONS to get up.

Last night I discovered a book I didn't know I had ( Six Ways to Keep the "Little" in your Girl), and today my husband was able to stop at the library for the books ( Blue Like Play Dough and One Thousand Gifts), I had waiting for me. So now I have a reason to wake up. I want to read through at least 2 of these books by the end of the week. My sweet secret sister... who isn't so much a secret, send me a wonderful devotional (Worry and Stress) that I can't wait to dig into. Along with my ESV Study Bible I can't WAIT for tomorrow so I can dive into my "treasures".  I have been trying to finish up October Song for ages so that is also in my morning pile. WHOOT!

Early to Rise Challenge Day 12

Going Against the Flow

I am not the type of person that need to be accepted. I mean I like it, but I don't find it essential for life. I remember as a teen. I would dress in what I wanted to... not that I was rebellious to my parents... I wasn't. I wore costumes for clothing. I didn't care that others thought that was a little different. I made most of my clothes. I liked them. If people didn't like them, I am ok with that.  Pick on me if you want, it won't change my mind.  I never really fit in as a teen either. I had my own business when I was 15. I was so different from others so maybe that being different didn't phase me.

As an adult and married I was again "different". I didn't want the normal doctor for children. Rather I chose home-birth. Much to the dismay of family members (not mine). There were so many decisions that I had made that were not well liked by family because it was not what they wanted. The choice of family size, vaccination, and medical issues. So I know what it is like to "go against the flow".

The most important thing for me when I get to the end of my life is to hear the words from my Lord, "well done, my good and faithful servant". I don't care about the money or the trip I "thought" I had to have. My family/children are the ONLY things I can take with me. I am sent here to please my Savior. I am His servant. I hope I can stand before Him one day and be able to finally see His face and understand His love.  Something I can't today.

Obviously I can work on my getting up time. Still have sick children that crawling in to snuggle meaning we didn't get up until 9. "sigh". But I felt that these moments are soon to be gone. I will  just sit still and enjoy them for they are soon to be gone and I will MISS them SO MUCH. I can get up early another day, when they are not sure and don't want/need my company to make them feel better. I LOVE being a mom.

Early to Rise Day 11

It’s Your World, So Change It

Wow this challenge was something I have been working on already. Mostly because my wonderful pastor has been talking about this. What are you doing to invest into someone else. Are you making disciples? I can honestly say I haven't been.  My life has been so stressful. I have been just been trying to survive. I HATE it. I want so badly to start helping instead of being the one that asks for help.  I don't know how to reach out when I am hurting so much.

But the Lord has been laying some things on my heart. Things I have felt I wanted to do. I really thought that He was asking me to do them now. But He has closed the doors, or should I say SLAM the door on the ideas. I am now back to needing support and love from others.  So I realize He is now stretching me and asking me to grow again. I am tired of this part of my life. I am so looking forward to the day that the Master Potter will be able to take a break and not need to mold me so much. The stretching HURTS.

So for now, I am going to work on "changing the World", in my home. Because for now this is where He has me. I can live out what I believe with my children. They can witness up close and personal someone who has had to live what they believe despite the hardship. I have had no one but the Lord to cry out to at times. I have a whole new view of the Jesus that I never had before. I find it difficult to comprehend how MUCH He loves me. I will never be able to understand.  If I can just teach that to my children... the LOVE and serve HIM I will have accomplished something eternal. The things here don't matter. What I do for HIM is what matters.

So now that I have my printer up and going and I am home for the week with sick children this is my opportunity to be able to focus on ME being slow to anger and speech. I have not been the BEST trainer of my children in that area... I will admit.

Now, for the reveal... I got up at 9, gulp. I actually got up at 7:10, but the kids wanted to snuggle... since they are all sick so we all snuggled together and went to sleep until 9. Oops. Tomorrow will better right?

Early to Rise Day 10

I think I will have to admit to something today.  I got up at 6:48, but I went back to bed to snuggle with my littles. We AGAIN have a sick household.  Sick kids means no church. :-( We have missed so much church since October. I think I have gone fewer than 10 times.

Sunday is Cinnamon Roll day here. I normally make them 1 pan, but today they begged for another one. Not sure what possessed me to feed them sugar when they are sick?  We were all so sad about not going to church so extra cinnamon rolls kinda was the balm on the wound.    I set the timer for 10 minutes so they can cool first before they can eat. As you can see here my son was eagerly awaiting for the timer to go off so we can eat them.

I had a great plan to avoid the time change. I put the clock ahead in the afternoon yesterday. That worked fairly well. We all went to bed an hour early etc. I have never even tried to plan ahead to get us through the time change fairly easy. I hope I can remember to do this next year.

I am still struggling to come up with an "art" and a fun reason to get up. Like a morning routine. I don't do well when my children are up. I can do little ones, but for some reason the noise from the older ones it just too much for me. Since my husband works 2nd shift there is really no place for me to "go" for quiet time. I don't have a living room or a nice chair to curl up in and do all the "things" one should in the morning. I am so use to doing it in my room or living room that I am not able to do it comfortably in my kitchen or dining room. They are too dark and loud with noise.

Book Review: Write It Down, Make it Happen

I have been reading so many books about writing things down. And guess what. I now know it works. "sigh" My printer broke so I am without my lists and charts I used to organize myself for 2 weeks. Oh, my I had no idea how much I NEED to write things down to make them happen.

One of the best things about this book is that it flowed well and was easy to understand. It was very motivating despite the fact I knew until my printer gets hooked up I am stuck with sticky notes all over. HA!  Some of the information I have read elsewhere, but a review is what I needed to stay motivated. Maybe I need to read books like these every 6 weeks! Hehe.

So go ahead, right a goal down. Then figure out how to MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Naan

I have wanted to make Naan for ages. I am hoping to be able to make pizza with it like Aarti's recipe on here. I just bought some Mangoes to make some Mango Chutney! But we have to start with Naan... I put everything in the bread machine. I LOVE my bread machine. How did I ever survive without it?

This is what I put in...

1 cup warm water
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 TBSP oil and Honey (or sugar)
2 1/4 tsp yeast

Set it to the dough setting.

I divided the dough into 8 sections and rolled it into circles.

I baked it at 350 for about 20 minutes.

Early To Rise Day 9

Whew, another day.  I am still working on what my "art" is and what I can do to make me looking forward to GETTING up. I am terrible at being creative. I am also bad at preparing for the next day. And to think I use to do it all the time and loved it. I love it, I just struggle DOING it.

Early to Rise Day 3 - 7

I have been faithful in getting up. I wish I could say that I have been able to get more done and being encouraged to keep up with the things I had so hoped to do. "sigh".  But at least I am faithfully getting up.
