Book Review: A Christmas Mission

I started reading A Christmas Mission around Christmas time. I ended up not finishing it, sadly. I was reading it on my vacation and when I got home I forgot about it. And when I went to find it again on my Kindle I had no idea what it was called and I had so many books I could not remember what the title was. When I finally went ahead and re-organized my Kindle I found it.

I found the book a great read but so sad. I could not comprehend how mother's could abandon their children because they could not afford to feed them. And what the children endured on the streets just made me sick. I am so thankful for places like mentioned in the story that are reaching out to the street boys especially.   After reading this book I do not think I will ever be able to erase the mental picture of what happens to those dear children.

A great read, but not something I would read to my children.

Book Review: Homemade Change

Since I am doing some spring cleaning I thought Homemade Change would be a helpful read. Between terrible back pain and the flu I haven't been able to do much cleaning. I was hoping this book would help motivate me. I found it thought provoking that my "junk" at home might be money in the bank if I found the right place to sell it. Since I have sold on ebay before that is one area I am familiar with. The author also mentioned several options I have not explored yet. A quick easy read that is sure not to disappoint if you are looking to make a little change on the side.

Book Review: Delicious Detox

Delicious Detox was a great read. It was not really something I would normally pick up to read, but I thought, why not. I was pleasantly surprised.  Some of the information actually made sense.

So even though this book is not the normal style I read, it did make me think about what I should be eating, and what I need to just let go of. I think some of the ideas are not for me, but I think I might try some of the detox ideas.

Book Review: How to eBay in Real Life

I found "How to Ebay in Real Life" On eReadergirl blog this morning.  I thought, how ironic. I was just getting ready to start putting a few things up on ebay. Would be nice to get a little review. It has been many years since I sold something.   All in all the book was pretty much what I expected. Having been a power seller on ebay years ago I was familiar with things already. It was a nice refresher course and also a great book on how to get your feet wet selling on ebay.

So if you are starting out selling on ebay for the first time or haven't sold in a while... this book is for you.

Piggly Wiggly April 13, 2013

Another Piggly Wiggly trip for the week. I did just about as well. Discovered that Pig will not let you double the McCain coupon. :-(  Oh well, $.49 for french fries etc really is NOT that bad. I still did ok. $9 for 2 transactions. I am hoping I can go back one more time tomorrow. :-)
The ice cream was still a MM, and the yogurt for the children was in the clearance bin.  And I think I will be set for chips for a while. I don't like to pay more than $1 for a bag. These were only $.50 so I am ok with that.

Pick N Save April 13, 2013

I only did 2 transactions this week, but I think I did fairly well. My total was 72.78, but I only payed $7.05. That is the best I think I have EVER done.
My favorite scores from this deal were the FREE PB and yogurt. YUM!

Piggly Wiggly April 12, 2013

I was not super excited about this weeks ad, but that was mainly because I never sat down and did the Math to see how good it was. I wish I had layed out my transactions better. I would go faster. But I never do.   This week though a thrown together transaction was only $5. It would have been less, but I was not sure some of the coupons would double so I tossed in few extra items. I also have some $ in Saving Star.

Book Review: From Dust and Ashes

From Dust to Ashes is a GREAT story.

This book had many twists and turns I did not expect. It really kept me on my toes. It really did not turn out how I expected it.  An angle to the German camps I was not expecting. A story of forgiveness and dedication to what the character's felt the Lord was asking them to do. I am not sure I would be able to do that.  It really takes so much to be able to say "YES LORD" even when it HURTS.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed a good story about forgiveness and love.

Cabbage Stir Fry

I had 2 cabbages left over from Easter. I was stumped how to use them. So I asked for some help. My friend reminded me of a recipe she had told me about ages ago. It was delicious.  So, I am sharing it with you.

Kathy and Angie's Cabbage Stir Fry

1 head of cabbage sliced
2 onions sliced
1 red pepper sliced
3 sausage cooked and sliced into coins
3 TBSP butter
salt and pepper to taste.
Red pepper flakes to taste

Saute onions and peppers in oil until crisp tender.  Add sliced cabbage and cook for until desired texture. Salt and Pepper to taste.  Mix in sausage. Serve.   YUM!

30 Day House Cleaning Challenge Day 1 - 6 2013

I am trying to play catch up. I have managed to:

Day 1:  Clean the counters and stove etc., in my kitchen. I also washed the floor. Or should I say the children washed it for me... by sliding across it. I did manage to hand them a scrub brush though for the corners etc. The kitchen although one of the easier rooms for me never seems to stay nice because we cook/bake so much. So even if it is clean today, tomorrow is another ball game.

Day 2 : Clean the bathroom. That took a while. And I only did 1 room. I actually SCRUBBED it for about an hour. The room has no window or sunlight so it stays wet and icky even when it is clean it is still damp. But it looks much better, other than the shower. I tried to scrub off the "orange" glow, but it proved to be more than my arms could tackle. So I will be taking a trip to the store for something to get rid of it. My children's bathroom gets cleaned almost daily because of it's constant use.

Day 3: I cleaned off the dressers in my room. I wish I had taken a picture because they were pretty bad. We are trying to make our dressers only be a home to our candles, TV/DVD and our printer (long story). I also cleaned and re-arranged the shelves/dressing table. It now is the home to our library books an the catch all for clothes that never get put away. But never fear it will have to do it again when I clean my room!

Day 4: I actually worked on my dining room organizing my pantry in anticipation Saturday's shopping trip. I also put all the shelves up in the green house. Now all I need is warm weather!

Day 5: I decided to clean the surface of my living room.  I put all the toys in the bin and kept sending the stuffed animals that came FLYING down the steps BACK upstairs. I am not sure why the stuffy zoo needed to be in the living room, but it was thanks to the young crowd at my house. LOL!

Day 6:  Since it was my shopping day I stuck with trying to finish up the kitchen. We had an issue with the stove so we ended up cleaning it. The smoke alarm insisted. hehe. I have the soup and the cereal all arranged in the pantry now. I am kinda excited about that. I have been working on getting things all in the same area because I don't realize what I have when it is all over the place. I won't need to buy cereal for a while.

Weekly Menu 4/7 - 4/13 2013

Breakfast: Cold Cereal,Yogurt, and Scramblers

Lunch: Chicken and Bean Enchiladas with corn, Salmon with fries/squash, Spinach quesadillas with beans and rice, Forgotten Chicken with broccoli, and Lasagna with 24 hour salad

Piggly Wiggly 3/5 and 3/6 2013

I went 2 days. The first day I paid $.68. The pizza rolls actually made me $.01 each. I almost MISSED the PB deal. I normally get the ad, but this week I didn't  Thankfully I saw it when I got to the store. The soap I used the $5/2 neutrogena coupon and I think I payed $.24 each for them. But it helped get me to the $25 needed so it was worth it.

The 2nd time I went I payed a little more.I think it was something like $7. I went home Friday after looking through the store and found more deals other than the pizza rolls. So I had more diversity in this one. The McCain fries were a MM again. I had a raincheck for them. I had been trying for WEEKS to get them and they were ALWAYS out. They are good. I am spoiled on sweet potato fries now.

Pepper Pizza

I did not make this recipe up, Someone message board I am on made it up. I kinda redid it a little to suit my needs. I think I could LIVE on this instead of pizza. :-)

Pizza Pepper,

3/4 of a pepper, inside scooped out
few slices pepperoni - or I used chopped up ham
sprinkle of bacon bits - I omitted this since I didn't have any.
sprinkle of red pepper flakes - this REALLY makes the dish
crumbled pepper jack cheese
sliced mushrooms (or other veggies) - I used onions too. YUM YUM!

Bake at 375 for 10 minutes, broil for 5 or so...watch it closely...I've been known to burn mine!

YUM!!!!

Early to Rise Challenge

I really found the challenge to be thought provoking. I ended up sick for a good portion of it, but I still was
able to get up early about 1/2 the time.

This one thing that stuck out the most for me that I learned.

Make a reason to get up and have a plan in place that makes you want to get up. For me it was having my devotional, Bible, and book I wanted to read sitting waiting for me. I also started getting the tea/coffee pot ready the night before so I could just get up and get a cup without much effort. I had to make myself a "spot: for this. It is difficult in our house. We really only have 1 chair in my living room that I can do that with. And there was no place to set my drink/books. I still don't have an end table, but at least the floor works. LOL! I also make sure I go to bed with warm clothes so when I wake up I am NOT cold. I learned I will NOT get out of bed if I am cold.

I am still working on changing my schedule so I get up at 6, instead of 7. I have to change my wake up time so when I start work in May it won't be such a shock to get up at 6. LOL!

St Patrick Day's Cabbage Rolls

We had a little fun for St. Patrick's Day. I have never really done much, but in an effort to be a little more creative I did make a big deal about this year.

As you can see we had "rainbow veggies" and we made jello for the Pot O Gold. YUM.

Irish Cabbage Rolls

1 green cabbage head
4 cups Mashed potatoes
1 cup cubed ham

I warmed the cabbage leaves so they would roll. Then I placed about 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes and sprinkle the ham down the middle and roll like a sushi roll.

Enjoy!

Pick N Save 3/30/2013

I had a great time shopping this weekend. It was only 1 transaction and it was simple and easy. I ended up paying only $5.32 for the items above PLUS I was given a $2 OYNO for the Uncle Ben's Rice. I was excited about that!

Book Review: Almost Amish

This book was not what I expected it to be. To be honest I was not that excited about it from the beginning. I did finish it, but I am not sure it was really worth it.   I was not impressed with the author's ideals. The idea of less items is fine, but I think she took it a bit too far in some areas. Not something I am comfortable with.

Book Review: One Thousand Gifts

This book was not really what I expected it to be. I loved the idea of looking around and seeing all the "gifts". I don't always remember to do that and I was challenged to do it. I try to remember that each day is a gift, and I may not have another one to make a difference for my Savior and my children.

Book Review: Blue Like Play Dough

Okay, of you are like me the title had you in stitches. It was so interesting it made me want to DIVE into the book. And I wasn't disappointed. It was a great book.

I liked hearing her story. How she often dreamed as a child about being able to tell her husband about her expecting. So sweet. But then she ended up so far from her dream. Having aborted her first child and then having to live with that guilt and shame.

I also enjoyed how she was so transparent about what struggles she had. I could really relate. :-)

A good read for anyone. :-)
