THM Crock Pot Cooking Menu Session 1

This is  my official first attempt to create an ALL THM menu for the crock pot. With summer creeping up I know that I don't want to be slaving over the stove to eat in the heat. So, instead I want to put my "kitchen slave" the crock pot to work.  Wanna join me?  I am choosing 10 different recipes.  I intend to double each recipe so I will end up with 20 meals for the freezer.   The shopping list is for 20 meals. 2 of each. Each recipe serves 5-6 people.

No Potato Beef Stew - THM S
Jambalaya - THM S

Bacon Wrapped Chicken with Rosemary - THM S
Easy Slow Cooker Moroccan Beef - THM S
BBQ Chicken - THM E
Pork and Veggies - THM S
Sausage and Bean Supper - THM E
Meat Stew - THM S
Bean Stew - THM E
Chicken Curry with Cabbage and Peppers - THM-E

THM stands for Trim Healthy Mama.  The letters after are the meal STYLES that are used in the THM eating plan.

    1. Do you par boil your veg or just cut them up and put them in a bag? I can find where it tells you what you do, are we talking but pre prep ie put all raw ingredients in a bag then freeze till we use them?? Thanks

    2. I did the all raw. If you want to par boil you can. I just didn't.

    3. Alot of these recipes sound like they are for a mom who stays home since they are 4-6 hrs. will they work for working moms 8 hrs or more in the crockpot on low.

      Delete
    4. Of course. I sometimes make my meals overnight.. I just cook them on low. :-)

      Delete
    5. I use an outlet timer (the kind you plug a light into while you're on vacation) and plug the crockpot into that. Since the food starts out frozen, it doesn't hurt to let it wait a few hours before starting to cook.

      Delete
    6. Also keep in mind that there are some programmable crock pots at Walmart. They are awesome!!!!!

      Delete
    7. A tip for working moms trying to use 4-6 hour recipes: Buy a timer for your crockpot. Put everything in the crock the night before and put it in the fridge overnight. The crock will work as a cooler for the food until it turns on at your preset time.

      Delete
    8. There is a crock pot that has a timer on it and turns itself on worm after the initial cooking time is up :-)

      Delete
    9. You can also get crockpots now that have automatic timers for start and finish programming. Perfection! It's like having two of me :)

      Delete
    10. I think the problem with the outlet timer for the crockpot is, I don't know about you, but when my crockpot turns on...I then have to select high, low, or keep warm.

    13. Me and my Aunt put the meals in session 1 together yesterday we left the house to go shopping at 10 am and finished the last bag at 4:30 pm. We split the meals between us. Since the meals are for 5-6 people, and I only have 2 people in my household that can eat this type of food I split my half portion into quarters and froze. The chicken wrapped in bacon looked like a delicious meal. I plan to give some of my bags away to a friend of mine who just had surgery.

    14. This works for me~ You know the timers you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot? The kind with the round dial and you can set your lights to turn on and off at the time you set it?Well, thats what I do with my crock pot. Done it for years. No ones gotten sick. You put the food, even thawed food in crock.Set your timer to cut on and off.I cooked our breakfast casserole (eggs and browned sausage and cheese) for Christmas morning.I put it together at 11 pm .Set the timer to cut on at 4:30 and it was ready at 6:30.Done it too many times and it comes out perfectly.

    16. I use to be vegetarian, but I am no longer because I am unable to make things the THM way. If you are not concerned about eating the THM way, just leave the meat out and add something like Eggplant, beans, or Tofu instead. ;-)

  15. Just thought that I would share this tip, too....if you do not want to heat up your house by turning on your oven, a roaster, like the Nesco, can be used as an oven too. Simply put the baking dish on the rack and set the roaster to the same temperature as you would an oven.

  30. This is great! I use my crock pot all the time and I feel like I am always making the same things over and over again. I really do want to try some new recipes with my boys and these look great! I did try something new last week, I roasted 2 geese in the crock pot with coconut ghee, garlic pepper, Himalayan salt, pineapple chunks, and white wine and they came out so tender and delicious! As for sides, I plan on steaming green veggies or spaghetti squash and mixing with Himalayan salt and pepper with olive oil or coconut ghee, or a nice side salad with homemade olive oil and vinegar dressing with my own spices to cut down on sodium and preservatives. I do use paleo tortilla wraps from julianbakery.com to cut down on carbs and grains.

  31. Is the shopping list set up for the single serving recipes (to make 10 meals), or doubled as mentioned to make 20?

    ReplyDelete

    1. It is set up for 4-6 people per recipe... one I know is actually doubled originally. So if you use the list etc you will make 20, 4-6 serving meals.

  60. My family made these crock pot meals and boy did we enjoy the handiness of having a meal in the freezer to throw in. We actually enjoyed all the meals except the Chicken Curry with Cabbage and Peppers. I could never tweak it to make it good. My family would not eat that bag. Also, if I were to do these recipes again, I'd split the ingredients between more bags. I have a family of 4 and we always had at least 2 nights of food. There was too much food in some of the bags. Over all, this recipe collection and shopping list was awesome and provided well for us.

For prep day, my husband and 2 teen daughters helped me prepare the bags. It took around 2 hours if I remember right. I seemed to take forever, but it was our first make ahead prep that we'd done. Our fridge was stuffed with 1Gal Ziploc crock pot meals.

  72. My family is really spoiled by my fresh cooking & my husband was sceptical about trying this--but we have had 3 meals so far & they have been a hit! I am excited to keep trying new things. I do modify & add some of our favorite spices or ingredients to get the flavors my family like--but so simple! My friend & I split the 20 meals and worked together so it was a fun way to spend a day.

  73. HELP! The moroccan beef recipe is not coming up. Do you still have it? It was there a few days ago, but I'm getting a "File Not Found" message. I've made all of the Round 1 recipes except that one and have a 2 pound piece of beef ready to be cooked.

  74. Can be cooked from frozen in crockpot or no?

    1. I think for safety reasons I wouldn't unless the meat has already been cooked. I personally have only done it a few times. Ideally get it out the night before and thaw before putting it in your crock.

  75. I use my crock pot all of the time, and this is a fun concept to maximize time. However, I was told never to put frozen chicken in a crock pot or slow cooker because it can't come to temperature fast enough and the risk is too great for food poisoning. Do you cook all of your chicken first? Please advise. Thank you.

  76. No I don't cook all my chicken first. It depends on the recipe. I don't usually put my meat in with my other items though. I tend to buy meat when it is on sale and when I go to cook it I drop it in. :-)

  77. I have simultaneously begun freezer meals and THM. To happen upon this site this specific week was serendipitous! :)

  78. I have been struggling with putting E and S meals together and really following the guidelines. I'm so glad I found this site. I can't wait to try some of the recipes! I bought a deep freezer just for these kinds of ideas. I love throw together meals. My husband and I will be using our travel trailer for the first time this year. This will be a great help with throwing pre-packaged meals in the freezer. Then I can stick to the plan even when traveling!

  83. I’m getting ready to prep and I noticed the No Potato Beef Stew calls for yellow squash but that wasn't on the shopping list.

    1. Oh my! You are so right. I have no idea why that happened. I'll do some investigation and see what happened? Thanks for letting me know.
